Hal Jordan vs. General Zod - "Zod's Will" Conclusion
It's the final battle between the greatest Green Lantern of all time and the ruthless general from Krypton. "Zod's Will" has reached its conclusion in Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #41. (Spoilers Ahead)
Rafa Sandoval's cover art is stunning that features Hal trampled by Zod. At first, I'm kinda disappointed since Sandoval didn't draw this issue but as you turn the pages you will appreciate the art of Brandon Peterson and Tomeu Morey. They both demonstrate their style that made the battle scenes more epic. Massive energy flows almost everywhere as Hal's constructs clashes with Zod's blazing red heat vision. GL writers usually play off Hal's past as a fighter pilot and this issue showcase it as Hal slams green-energy airplanes into Zod. Hal does end up victorious and arrested him.
The Guardians arrive with John and demanding to release Zod without explaining why. From the previous issue, John and the Guardians were at odds then suddenly they're on the same side. It seems like the Guardians are back in becoming the annoying characters in this book.
In the last pages, it was revealed that Zod gained the information that he needs from the green lantern ring that will help him to conquer the universe. This proves that Hal is right to remove the threat before it happens and this also leave an open door for a rematch between Zod and the Green Lantern Corps.
The art in this issue is definitely amazing but the story seems dragging. It seems like Robert Venditti is struggling between writing a good story and action. It's a hit or miss and I'm curious to know what he will do for his last act for this series.
