(Suicidal) Squad Goals

2016 see the first-ever team-up of DC's prized-possessions via Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Sadly, the battle was not concentrated with Batman and Superman but of critics and fans as the movie was a lukewarm success, battling it hard to please the critics.

As a result, everybody's attention on Suicide Squad,  DC Comics antihero team of the same name, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures and is the third installment in the DC Extended Universe.

Written and directed by David Ayer, the cast include  Will Smith (Deadshot), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Jared Leto (Joker), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), Jai Courtney (Boomerang), Jay Hernandez (El Diablo), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), Karen Fukuhara  (Katana) and Cara Delevingne (Enchantress).

In the movie, a secret government agency led by Amanda Waller (Davis) recruits imprisoned supervillains to execute dangerous black ops missions and save the world from a powerful threat in exchange for clemency.

Suicide Squad had a press screening in the Philippines last August 2 and The Geekery is one of those who were lucky to saw it first and the pool had it's thoughts:

Josh Paraiso writes,
Less serious, kinda more fun than Batman v Superman. The tone is not the usual DC Cinematic Universe, but it's an improvement. Forced humor were injected everywhere. Some were tongue-in-cheek (spare Harley's of course) but failed to impress making the movie a factory of one-punch-liners. Jared Leto is a good Joker I must say, but Joker for the movie doesn't help. Heck, pull him out and the movie stands strong. Kudos to Viola Davis (extending her role as Annalise Keating of How to Get Away with Murder), Cara Delevigne (with her hip-swaying and some contortions here and there) and Margot Robbie (the saving grace of the movie, the personification of Harley Quinn) for their very favorable to spot-on performances. With heavy concentration of marketing towards Quinn and Joker, sadly it's not enough to cover-up the plotholes. It's like covering Killer Croc's face with the foundation used by Quinn and Joker-- not enough. Suicide Squad started from ok to good then steady then back to ok and went to finishing "wtf is happening now?". If this is DC's answer to Deadpool or Guardians of the Galaxy then they should do better. Wonder Woman and Justice League are their only hope-- for now. Rating: 7.5/10

Renz Medallo says,
Served as DC's first step in deviating from their previous style in their own cinematic universe, I could say that it's good but not good enough. Joker's appearance is not quite essential part of the story but from what I said during the interview with Myx, Leto nails it. It's a fun movie where everybody will enjoy watching. Thanks Warner Bros. Philippines and Geekcraft! Rating: 7/10

Overall Metacritic rating (1-100): 48
Rotten Tomatoes: 37%
Suicide Squad is PG-13 and distributed by Warner Bros.
